Educational resources

Residents receive a fully funded membership to the American College of Physicians (ACP), which includes a subscription to the Medical Knowledge Self-Assessment Program (MKSAP). The program also provides a UWorld subscription and grants residents 24/7 access to Midwestern University’s (MWU) online library.

All-purpose leave

Residents receive 25 days of all-purpose leave per academic year, which includes up to five days of paid sick time. The remaining 20 days may be used for vacation or other personal needs.

Resident well-being

Resident psychological, emotional, and physical well-being is essential to developing competent, caring and resilient physicians. Self-care is a professional skill that must be learned and nurtured throughout training. The program maintains clear, ongoing communication regarding well-being resources and support services so that residents understand what is available and feel comfortable seeking help when needed.

Meals

Residents receive a cafe card with a $10 daily allotment for the on-site cafeteria or Code Bean, the hospital’s coffee shop.

Uniforms

Residents receive an annual stipend that covers the cost of lab coats and scrubs.

Educational stipend

Residents receive an annual stipend that supports attendance at educational and research conferences, including poster presentations.

Examinations

The program covers the cost of the COMLEX Level 3 or USMLE Step 3 exam during the first year, a board review course and the specialty certification board exam during the third year, and ACLS and BLS certifications, which are completed during orientation week and recertified during the third year.

Parking

Residents receive free, unlimited parking in the employee lots, which includes a blue permit parking placard.

Vibrant community

Residents train at VVMC, which is surrounded by stunning mesas, canyons and buttes, and offers convenient access to destinations like the Grand Canyon for day trips and weekend getaways. Beyond the scenic environment, residents will find a vibrant, welcoming community that makes this location an exceptional place to live and train.
