Nestled in the scenic landscape of Cottonwood, Arizona, Verde Valley Medical Center (VVMC) offers a three-year Internal Medicine Residency Program in partnership with Midwestern University.
Fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), our program has been preparing physicians for the next stage of their careers since 2010. Today, 18 residents learn and grow in a close-knit, collegial environment, with six new residents joining us each year.
We believe great physicians are shaped by meaningful patient relationships and hands-on learning, not just case volume. At VVMC, residents care for a wide range of patients, work closely with dedicated faculty and benefit from one-on-one mentorship in a collaborative teaching environment.
Training built around your goals
The Internal Medicine Residency Program at Verde Valley Medical Center gives residents the flexibility to shape their training around their career goals, whether pursuing fellowship training, hospital medicine or outpatient primary care.
Residents receive individualized attention throughout training. Subspecialty rotations are conducted one-on-one with attending physicians, giving residents focused mentorship and direct clinical learning.
Core internal medicine rotations are inpatient and led by an experienced team of hospitalists. With continuous supervision, residents take on increasing responsibility as they build confidence managing common and complex acute and chronic conditions. They also gain substantial outpatient internal medicine experience.

Elective rotations give residents the opportunity to explore specialties and refine their career direction. Program leadership continues to build relationships with partner sites and institutions to expand clinical experiences.
Resident success
Our residents have gone on to fellowship training in infectious disease, allergy and immunology, cardiology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, rheumatology and nephrology. They also present case reports at the American College of Physicians’ state chapter meeting and participate in annual in-training exams to track their medical knowledge and growth.
