NAH celebrates Emergency Department renaming in Sedona

Sedona Emergency Department renaming ceremony

Northern Arizona Healthcare (NAH) is pleased to announce its Emergency Department (ED) in Sedona was renamed on Wednesday, March 11. Now recognized as the William and Deborah Johnson Emergency Department, the ED honors an influential Sedona couple who spent years supporting emergency services in the community. Thanks to the Johnsons’ commitment to NAH’s mission of Improving health and healing people in northern Arizona, the ED will remain available to residents and visitors now and for generations to come.

“We all have a legacy that we leave, and part of Bill’s legacy was his passionate advocacy for the residents of Sedona and the surrounding area,” said NAH Chief Philanthropy Officer Larry Kushner.

The renaming was made possible through Kushner’s work alongside Deborah Johnson, owner of Cleaner Quicker Car Wash and Detailing in Sedona. Together, they raised funds to honor William Johnson, known as Bill, after his passing in 2023.

“Bill was part of the Sedona community that challenged us to improve and encouraged us to innovate while standing beside us as we continue to grow,” said Rick Gray, NAH Vice President of Operations and Verde Valley Administrator. “Keeping services like the Emergency Department in Sedona helps ensure we are running an efficient health care system for the region.”

The renaming ceremony reflects the Sedona community’s commitment to caring for one another.

“Sedona has a voice at NAH, and I don’t think there could be a better example of that than today’s ceremony to name this wonderful service after an incredible member of the Sedona community,” said Troy Lorents, Chair of the NAH Board of Directors.

Sedona Mayor Holli Ploog also attended the renaming ceremony and reflected on Bill’s life and legacy. She described him not only as a tireless advocate, but also as a friend and neighbor who cared deeply about the health and well-being of his community.

The William and Deborah Johnson Emergency Department is located at 3700 W. State Route 89A. NAH’s dedicated emergency specialists are equipped to treat nearly any condition or trauma, reducing the need to travel outside northern Arizona for emergency care.
