At Flagstaff Medical Center, our injury prevention coordinator works with community resources to reduce preventable injuries by:
- Promoting awareness of the potential for injury at home and on the road.
- Identifying high-risk behavior through a DUI task force that screens for substance and alcohol abuse in the Emergency Department.
- Increasing the availability of protective equipment and encouraging its use through a seat belt and helmet campaign.
- Drafting rules and regulations, including through law enforcement, to increase compliance with the city’s helmet law.
The recent City of Flagstaff ordinance requiring minors to wear bicycle helmets is a great example of how a community injury prevention project resulted from our trauma data, analysis and problem-solving.
In case of an emergency, call 911.
