Bio
Janina C. Johnson, DNP, RN, CNE, was elected to the Northern Arizona Healthcare Board of Directors in 2025 and resides in Flagstaff.
As dean of Northern Arizona University’s (NAU) College of Nursing, Dr. Johnson is passionate about educating the next generation of health care providers in our region and beyond. She brings extensive experience in building and expanding innovative nursing education programs.
Her career has spanned multiple academic leadership roles, including professor, academic coordinator, director, executive director, associate dean and dean. Prior to joining NAU, she held positions at Chamberlain University in Chicago, Ill., and Brookline College in Phoenix. In addition to her academic leadership, she has served on national nursing boards and supported programs as a consultant.
In 2024 and 2025, Dr. Johnson was named one of the top 100 most influential health care leaders in Arizona, earning a spot on AZ Big Media’s annual “Who’s Who in Arizona Healthcare” list. Her business acumen is reflected in the more than $8.5 million in grant funding she has secured to support educational initiatives and advance teaching excellence in health care.
Dr. Johnson holds a doctoral degree in nursing from American Sentinel University, now known as American Sentinel College, in Aurora, Colo., a master’s degree in nursing from Walden University in Minneapolis, Minn., and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla.
