Baby Emmie Jean Dustin, daughter of Taylor Dustin and Cydney Shaum of Flagstaff, was born at 12:39 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 1, making her the first baby born at Flagstaff Medical Center. Baby Dustin weighs 6 pounds, 4 ounces and measures 18 and a half inches long. Taylor was able to help deliver his daughter.
“I was able to catch her. I guess it doesn’t happen very often, so it was one of those once in a lifetime chances.”

Baby Cora Alyse Ashford, daughter of Scott and Sonya Ashford of Cottonwood, was born at 7:49 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 1, making her the first baby born at Verde Valley Medical Center. Baby Ashford weighs 6 pounds, 5 ounces and measures 18 inches long. This is the couple’s first child.
“I was scheduled to be induced tomorrow, but she decided to make her grand entrance on New Year’s.”
