Each day, we see colleagues doing amazing things that reflect our Northern Arizona Healthcare Values. Colleagues doing outstanding work are nominated for the L.O.V., or “Living Our Values,” Award. A committee of NAH colleagues from across the system reviews all nominations to select monthly honorees and quarterly champions.
The following L.O.V. honorees distinguished themselves by living NAH Values – Show compassion, Do amazing work, Respect differences, Build community; and Be better together. Thanks and congratulations to each and every one!
Amanda “Mandy” Petrie, lead radiology tech 2
Value: Show compassion
One afternoon, three pediatric patients arrived at the Emergency Department for care. Mandy had already worked a 13-hour day tending to inpatients, outpatients, ED patients and those who needed invasive procedures – but when these children arrived, she volunteered to stay on and help the other technologist do multiple imaging exams. After finishing, she punched out to go home. On her way out, she went through the ED to see how one of the children, an infant, was doing. Instead of going home, Mandy sat down and rocked the baby to sleep in her lap; staying a long time afterwards to make sure the baby was comfortable. These actions went far above and beyond her normal responsibilities. Mandy’s amazing work demonstrated the kind of compassion that makes meaningful connections in the communities we serve, and she is one reason the Medical Imaging department is known for its excellence.
Rebecca Rocha, patient care tech unit secretary
Value: Show compassion
Rebecca took the initiative to check on a patient who was waiting in the main hospital lobby after a visit to the Weight Management Clinic. Unfortunately, the patient’s ride had left for the day and she lives hours away in Kingman. Rebecca engaged her chain of command and worked with Care Coordination for approximately four hours after her shift had ended to secure the patient’s ride home. Rebecca followed expected protocol, but also went way above and beyond expectations. Thanks to Rebecca, the patient was kept safe and accompanied during a very difficult time. These actions were not out of character for Rebecca, who continually demonstrates kindness to each person she encounters, both in the workplace and in the greater community. Her compassion is well-known and deeply appreciated.
