The importance of volunteering

Want to give back to your community? Become a volunteer at Northern Arizona Healthcare.

What are the benefits of volunteering?

Volunteering serves different purposes for different people. You feel inspired to help others through difficult times, make new friends or find a new passion. Regardless of why you chose to give the gift of your time, you will have the satisfaction of knowing you helped make someone’s day a little brighter and a little easier.

If you are considering a career in healthcare, volunteering at NAH allows young adults the opportunity to get a personal took at the industry and meet people who can help you on your career path. Volunteering is a great way for you to learn about different roles in healthcare − and can sometimes be counted towards school and university credits.

Volunteers are an asset to NAH and give the ultimate gifts: time and love. With more than 600 volunteers at helping us each year, their assistance enhances the quality of care we are able to offer patients, families and visitors to our hospitals.

Interested in becoming a volunteer at NAH?

Volunteering at NAH is a great way to build community, network with others and add new skills to your resume. We carefully matches volunteers with assignments they will enjoy most.

Volunteers must be 16 years or older and able to commit to four hours per week. Each volunteer is matched with an assignment that fits his or her personality, ability and schedule. Volunteer opportunities are available in all departments at both Flagstaff Medical Center and Verde Valley Medical Center. No special skills or training are needed – just an open heart and a warm smile. The diversity of our volunteers – from homemakers to professionals, students to retirees, young to mature – makes us stronger and better able to serve the healthcare needs of the community. Key qualifications for volunteers are a helpful, caring attitude and a respect for confidentiality. Our orientation process will provide you with additional information.
