Holbrook Junior High students share their love and appreciation for healthcare workers through art

Sometimes, the youngest members of a community provide the most encouragement to those who need it. Take, for example, the Holbrook Junior High School students who decided to make inspirational posters for local hospitals, including Flagstaff Medical Center, to inspire frontline healthcare workers.

Cheri Grau, the school’s incoming principal (currently its academic and instructional specialist) said the project began when teachers Beth Plumb and Alicia Jimenez held a virtual student council meeting to help the students think of ways to support the medical community. At that meeting, the poster idea was born.

“From there, the kids really ran with it,” Grau said. “They wanted to show support to medical workers and help with morale. They just wanted people in the medical profession to know they’re viewed as heroes. They wanted to send positivity and good wishes and brighten some days.”

The students sent posters not only to Flagstaff Medical Center, but to the Ronald McDonald Houses in Phoenix, Tucson and Albuquerque; Summit Healthcare in Show Low; Sage Memorial Hospital in Ganado, and the Winslow Indian Health Center in Winslow.
