NAH announces phase one completion of FMC’s Emergency Department renovation

Renovated emergency department area with updated nurses’ station, new flooring, LED lighting, and added treatment bays and waiting areas.

Northern Arizona Healthcare (NAH) is pleased to announce that phase one of the Flagstaff Medical Center (FMC) Emergency Department (ED) renovation has been completed. The project, which began in June 2025, aims to improve efficiency and the patient experience.

The following projects have been completed for phase one:

  • Six low-acuity treatment bays added
  • Existing nurses’ station updated
  • Sub-wait and continuing care waiting areas added with new construction
  • New supply room specific for this area added for quick access
  • Paint and flooring upgraded
  • Lighting replaced with LED lights throughout the new space and in four existing treatment rooms
  • New tube station installation connected to Lab and Pharmacy, creating efficient supply exchange between departments

A refresh phase is currently in progress. This phase will update a section of the ED with new flooring, paint, and LED lights, as well as adding a new nurses’ station.

Phase two began in February 2026 and includes renovating an existing area to create an appropriate, safe designated space for patients experiencing crisis and who need evaluation.

This project is an effort to improve the existing ED space as much as possible in the interim time before NAH can construct a new hospital. These enhancements reflect NAH’s ongoing commitment to providing compassionate care to every member of our community when they need it most.
