Flagstaff Medical Center (FMC) and Verde Valley Medical Center (VVMC) were awarded “A” Hospital Safety Grades by The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety. The Leapfrog Group assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to all general hospitals across the country using evidence-based measures of errors, accidents, injuries and infections, including the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.
“We are so proud of the entire team at FMC and VVMC for receiving ’A’ grades in the Spring 2026 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades,” said Dave Cheney, CEO of Northern Arizona Healthcare. “When NAH receives a recognition for something as important as hospital safety, it is a reflection of our team’s unwavering commitment to providing safe, high-quality care to every patient who walks through our doors. This honor belongs to our staff who work every day to foster a culture of safety, compassion and excellence. We look forward to continuing to serve our community and remain dedicated to continuously improving the care experience for our patients and families,” Cheney added.
“FMC and VVMC both deserve recognition for its unwavering focus on protecting patients and delivering safe care,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “Sustaining this level of excellence over time shows a true, organization-wide commitment to making patient safety a top priority every single day.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program focused exclusively on preventable medical errors, injuries, and infections that can lead to harm or death. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
