Flagstaff Medical Center (FMC) and Verde Valley Medical Center (VVMC) both earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group for fall 2025. Leapfrog, an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country using evidence-based measures of patient safety focused exclusively on errors, accidents, injuries and infections.

“A huge congratulations to the entire staff at FMC and VVMC for receiving an ‘A’ grade in the Fall 2025 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades,” said Dave Cheney, CEO of Northern Arizona Healthcare. “Any time NAH receives a recognition such as this, it is a testament to the care that we provide to our patients in the community. It is so crucial to have a safe work environment in a hospital setting, for both the patients and the staff, and to see our colleagues recognized for properly executing the correct safety protocols makes me extremely proud,” Cheney added.

“Earning an ‘A’ Grade means FMC and VVMC made a true commitment to put patient safety first,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We congratulate the leadership, Board, clinicians, staff and volunteers that all had a role to play in this achievement.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
