Breastfeeding Basics

All classes are virtual on Zoom.

Classes are taught by certified lactation consultants/instructors.

Course Description

Get a head start on successful breastfeeding before your new baby arrives. Topics include initiating breastfeeding; techniques and positions; selecting the correct breast pump and supplies for your needs; correct breast milk storage; problem-solving; and day-to-day management. Partners are encouraged to attend.

You will need to bring the following items to class: two pillows, a doll or stuffed animal, and a pen and paper to take notes.  You will also need a refillable water bottle to use throughout the evening. Feel free to bring some snacks for you and your partner. Be sure to wear comfortable, stretchy clothing.

Please try to log in to the Zoom meeting 10 minutes early so that you have time to get settled in, as class begins promptly at 6:30 p.m.

Breastfeeding Basics was a great class. I learned so much about what to expect and how to manage breastfeeding once I return to work. I highly recommend this class to all mothers who will be breastfeeding for the first time – Class participant

Registration and payment for classes can be made online by creating an account through our Learning Management System at:

Non-employees: If you know which class or program you would like to take, you may go directly to the registration site by following this link, NAH Learning Management System (LMS) for community members

Employees: If you know which class or program you would like to take, you may go directly to the NAH Colleague Portal, NAHLink.com.

Once logged into LMS, select “Search” at the top of the screen, select “Classroom” under the course type criteria and then enter the class name in the search box. This will provide a list of available class dates.

You may also contact the Education office at 928-773-2491. If paying by check or money order, please make payable to  Northern Arizona Healthcare– Childbirth Education.

Additional information

If you do not notify the CBE office at least 24 hours before the date of the class of your inability to attend and you do not show up for class, no reimbursement will be issued.

After online registration, you will receive an email from the Childbirth Education office to confirming receipt of your registration. If you do not receive registration materials within 48 hours of your scheduled class, please contact the Education office at 928-773-2491. Please include your email address and current phone number in any messages to ensure accurate delivery of your registration information.

If you would like to register for a class less than 24 hours before it is scheduled, please contact the Childbirth Education office before registering online to confirm that there are still seats available. Classes tend to fill quickly.

If a class is posted as FULL and you are interested in registering for that class, please contact the Education office at 928-773-2491. You will be placed on the waiting list. You will be notified by phone if there is a cancellation and seats become available for you and your partner.

If your class is canceled due to severe weather conditions, the Childbirth Education office will notify you by phone. 

Occasionally, a class may need to be canceled due to low registration. If this occurs, you will be contacted by phone and other scheduling arrangements will be made. If desired, a reimbursement can be issued.
