Lynette Barnhart, NNP-BC, has been named Northern Arizona Healthcare’s (NAH) 2025 Greg Cox Advanced Practice Provider (APP) of the Year in Flagstaff. Barnhart is the lead neonatal nurse practitioner at Flagstaff Medical Center’s (FMC) Special Care Nursery. She is recognized for her trusted leadership, amazing attitude and compassionate care for her patients.

APPs are an essential part of each patient’s care team, as they work seamlessly with physicians and other members of the team to ensure that each patient receives the best care possible. This is the seventh year NAH is recognizing APPs. The recipients are nominated by colleagues and must exemplify NAH’s values of doing amazing work, showing compassion, being better together, building community and respecting differences.

Barnhart, who has over 20 years of dedicated experience in neonatal nursing, exemplifies excellence in clinical care. Colleagues who nominated her described her as a great leader with a deep commitment to improving outcomes for the most vulnerable patients. She is a trusted mentor and resource for her fellow RNs and always goes above and beyond for infants and their families.

“Lynette is an integral part of Specialty Care Nursery team at FMC and we are beyond pleased to honor her dedication and hard work,” said Dave Cheney, CEO of Northern Arizona Healthcare. “The expertise and compassion that Lynette displays when delivering clinical care to high-risk newborns is one of the many reasons that her colleagues enthusiastically nominated her for this award. APPs are the backbone of a patient’s care team, and we believe it is important to recognize these members of Team NAH who demonstrate accountability when serving members of the community every day,” Cheney added.

The Greg Cox APP of the Year Award aims to select providers who not only excel at patient care, but who go above and beyond when it comes to patient safety and quality. It also recognizes providers who are engaged members of the community and are leaders and role models within the organization.

In 2023, the FMC APP of the Year Award was renamed the Greg Cox APP of the Year Award to commemorate the lasting legacy of Greg Cox, PA-C. Cox was posthumously awarded the FMC 2023 APP of the Year Award and is remembered by his colleagues for inspiring and supporting them during their careers and for making their lives better with his friendship.
