Josh Tinkle named Chief Administrative Officer for Flagstaff Medical Center

Northern Arizona Healthcare announced this week that Josh Tinkle will join the health system as the Chief Administrative Officer of the Flagstaff Market, which includes Flagstaff Medical Center.

Key physicians and leaders from across the organization were involved in the selection process and supported Tinkle as the top candidate.

“Josh comes to us with broad support from our team and eagerness to move FMC forward,” said Flo Spyrow, Chief Executive Officer and President of NAH. “His experience and knowledge in hospital administration and master facility planning will help guide us into the new era at NAH.”

Spyrow served in the Chief Administrative Officer position for FMC and the Flagstaff Market until the Northern Arizona Healthcare Board of Directors named her first interim NAH CEO in March 2018 and then permanent CEO in October 2018. Tinkle joins NAH in mid-August.

“I’m looking forward to the opportunity to work with the physicians and leaders I’ve met as we realize the vision of a healthcare system with such an important obligation to the communities it serves,” Tinkle said. “I grew up in a small town and understand the vital role healthcare plays in creating stable communities and having world class care close to home.”

Tinkle comes to NAH after leading operations for Banner University Medical Center in Phoenix, where he is responsible for a 767-bed hospital, Level 1 trauma center, 27 clinics and approximately 2,000 providers. In this position he facilitated the deployment of an operational governance structure and master campus plan, which included overseeing the construction of a $600 million patient tower, emergency department, cancer center and two ambulatory clinic buildings.

Tinkle’s career in healthcare started in marketing and business development in the post-acute space. This work included more than eight years with Unity Point Health, a hospital system consisting of 32 hospitals, 290 physicians’ clinics and homecare services throughout the Mid-West. He was responsible for development of the Accountable Care Organization (ACO) and highly involved in outpatient operations with a focus on reducing healthcare costs. Tinkle later served as Vice President of Health System Integration and Strategy for Sharecare Inc., where he worked to build technology that supports better healthcare outcomes for Hospital Corporation of America and Trinity Health.

Tinkle earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration Management from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa, and Master of Healthcare Administration from Des Moines University, Des Moines, Iowa. He is a Fellow of the College of Healthcare Executives and a Six Sigma Black Belt.

Tinkle and his family look forward to relocating to Flagstaff and becoming a part of the Northern Arizona community.
