Meeting the challenge: Chase the dog

Some volunteers at Verde Valley Medical Center are furry and four-footed – for example, Chase, a seven-year-old Shetland Sheepdog who has honed his joy-producing skills at Verde Valley Medical Center for the past five years.

Chase visits patients’ rooms and wanders the hallways and waiting rooms with his owner, Jan Tomlinson, giving love and affection to anyone in need. One of their favorite places to visit is the EntireCare physical therapy space, where patients love to take a break and pet Chase.

“As soon as we arrive in the parking lot at VVMC, Chase is barking and crying to get out and meet people,” Tomlinson said. “You can tell he really looks forward to it.

“Since he’s been unable to visit because of Coronavirus, you can tell that he really misses it,” she said.

Chase would like to remind everyone to stay safe and wear their masks, whether in the hospital or out!
