Your heart is trying to tell you something – will you listen?

Heart disease catches people by surprise every day. Some symptoms are painless, and others happen in places other than your chest. If something just “doesn’t feel right” as you’re going about your daily activities, it might be time to consider these warning signs:

Some signs to watch for – especially if you experience more than one sign – include:

  • Chest discomfort.
  • Shortness of breath.
  • Breaking out in a cold sweat.
  • Upset stomach.
  • Arm pain.
  • Throat or jaw pain.
  • Fatigue.
  • Sleep apnea/snoring.
  • Coughing.
  • Swollen legs, ankles or feet.
  • Irregular heartbeat with dizziness or fainting.

It’s even more important to watch for signs of heart disease if it runs in your immediate family (uncles, aunts and grandparents don’t count). In addition, if you smoke, have high cholesterol, are overweight, diabetic or are over 60 years of age, you should be more aware of these signs.

Heart disease is preventable and treatable. You can make a difference in your heart health by working with your doctor to make great choices.
