The goal of the PALS provider and renewal courses are to improve outcomes for pediatric patients in cardiac arrest and other cardiopulmonary emergencies through early recognition and interventions by high performance teams based on the standards of the American Heart Association.
- Application of the concepts of systematic evaluation of a pediatric patient which includes initial, primary and secondary assessment
- Application of early recognition and management of a pediatric patient in respiratory and shock states
- Recognition and management of bradyarrhythmias and tachyarrhythmias
- Recognition and management of cardiac arrest including basic life support and post cardiac arrest care management
Prerequisites
- All registrants must be healthcare providers who direct or participate in the resuscitation of patients either in or out of hospital setting
- As part of preparation for the course, participants are issued a provider manual and expected to prepare prior to attendance in the course
- Complete a precourse work assignment made up of self-assessment and precourse work videos through the AHA E-learning website. Participants will be given further instructions related to this requirement upon registration.
Due to required class preparation, registration for classes will be closed five (5) business days prior to the provider/renewal class date and 14 business days for a PALS instructor course.

Location
At Flagstaff Medical Center, the courses will be held in the Northern Arizona Healthcare Training Center, located at the west end of Fort Valley Shopping Center, 1000 N. Humphreys, Suite 241-242.
In Cottonwood, the courses will be held in the Education Center located in the Courtyard Plaza on the east side of the Verde Valley Medical Center, 269 S. Candy Lane.

Cancellation Policy
Refunds are available less a $75.00 administration fee for the Provider and Renewal courses and $75.00 for the Instructor course. No refund is issued if cancellation occurs within five business days of the course.

Participants who have not taken the PALS course or with expired PALS cards will have to take the two-day provider course. Participants who work in less acute units or low volume locations are recommended to take a 2-day provider class for renewal.
