The challenging SCN Training Program is designed to prepare nurses who have a passion to care for acutely and critically ill neonates, and to support the infants’ families. The program is designed to work closely with an interdisciplinary team including physicians, nurses, social workers, respiratory therapists and others who provide specialized specific care.
The training program provides a focus on generalized nursing knowledge, advanced critical thinking, developmental concepts and enhancing critical skills in a family-centered, neonatal-specific environment. Components of the program include:
- Respiratory illness and high-risk emergencies
- Neonatal hemodynamics
- Age-specific technologies
- Recognition of the deteriorating neonatal patient
Duration of the program is approximately six months, including didactic and preceptorship. The program is individualized based on participants’ prior experience and learning needs.
