Cancer Survivors' Upbeat Retreat

Each year, the VVMC Cancer Center-Sedona
Campus, FMC Cancer Center, the Grand Canyon Oncology Nursing Society and
the local American Cancer Society (ACS) chapter cosponsor the three-day
Northern Arizona Upbeat Retreat. This event provides fun recreation, networking and educational opportunities in a supported retreat setting for women who are cancer patients or cancer survivors. The retreat is held in Payson, at the R-C Boy Scout Ranch, located in the Ponderosa pines on the Mogollon Rim. The atmosphere is camp-like, and the participants sleep in heated cabins. The main log cabin lodge is enormous, with a full restaurant-style kitchen and gigantic stone fireplace. A variety of recreational and educational activities, including hiking, arts and crafts, games, massages and presentations by community members, will be provided. The goal is to provide a fun, nurturing and educational experience for all women with cancer - those who are newly diagnosed as well as long-term survivors. |

Verde Valley Medical Center has developed an innovative program for hip and knee joint replacement, enabling patients to recover faster with less pain. Joint replacement can allow individuals to return to an optimal level of activity, eliminate arthritis pain and improve quality of life. The seminar will be presented by Jack Wylie, M.D., orthopedic surgeon; Jon Cook, P.T., D.P.T., coordinator of the VVMC Joint Replacement and Sports Medicine Programs; and Kathryn Jessop, R.N., coordinator of the VVMC Joint Replacement Education Program.
