Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory
Welcome to the Heart Center at VVMC,
a full-service, healthy heart program providing prevention, diagnostics,
treatment and rehabilitation for the Central Arizona community.
Diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease takes place in the
Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory.
A cardiac catheterization is a procedure which gives cardiologists the
definitive picture of heart function and the coronary arteries. During
the procedure, a catheter is inserted into the femoral artery and guided
to the coronary arteries. X-ray pictures are taken of the heart
arteries, showing narrowing and blockages. Narrowing and blockages may
be treated with balloon angioplasty and coronary stents.
VVMC opened its first Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory in 1999. The
continued growth and development of cardiology services (including the
introduction of on-site angioplasty in 2001), led to the construction of
a new $2.8 million catheterization suite in June 2002.
The General Electric Innova 2000 ™ Digital Cardiac System is the “next
generation” in cardiac catheterization imaging. Images are completely
digital, allowing premier resolution of the coronary arterial system,
while minimizing radiation to patients.
Patient admission, assessment,
diagnosis, treatment and recovery is in a centralized catheterization
service location, allowing easy patient, family, and primary care
physician access. |
