About the Bariatric Team
Surgeons
Bariatric surgeries
at FMC currently are performed by Robert Berger, M.D. and Andrew J.
Aldridge, M.D. of Flagstaff Surgical Associates.
Dr. Berger is a
general surgeon who graduated from the University of Arizona College of
Medicine. He performed an internship and residency at the U of A, and
completed a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery at the University
of Illinois, Chicago. He is a member of the American College of
Surgeons, the Society of the American Gastroenterologic Surgeons and
the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons.
Dr. Berger has performed more than 200 bariatric surgery cases.
Dr. Aldridge is a general surgeon who
graduated from the University of Arizona College of Medicine. He
performed an internship and residency at the U of A and has participated
in a multitude of training sessions at other Bariatric surgery
institutions. He is a member of the American Medical Association,
Arizona Medical Association and the Society of American Gastrointestinal
Endoscopic Surgeons. Dr. Aldridge has assisted with over 50 Bariatric
and advanced Laparoscopic surgeries. For over a year, he has had an
ongoing preceptorship with Dr. Berger.
Compassionate and Professional Staff
The staff at Flagstaff Surgical
Associates and Flagstaff Medical Center are dedicated
to the care of the bariatric patient and are here to meet your needs and
make you feel comfortable.
Nutrition, Exercise and Psychological
Counseling
We have built our program on a
model of comprehensive care for the patient pre-operatively, while in
the hospital, and post-operatively. All patients are required to have
psychological testing and nutritional counseling prior to surgery. We
also provide a four-hour required educational class prior to surgery.
The class will provide you with a patient notebook and education from
nursing, dietitians and an exercise professional. Follow-up appointments
with the psychologist and dietitian are available as needed.
Pool Program
An exercise program in our warm-water therapy pool is available for a fee for patients both pre-op and
post-op or for those working on a non-surgical weight loss program. Call
