About Flagstaff
 At nearly 7,000 feet in elevation, Flagstaff has four seasons and an abundance of sunshine. In the center of the world’s largest ponderosa pine forest, Flagstaff is a recreational hub for Northern Arizona. Areas for camping, hiking, biking, climbing and fishing are plentiful. Flagstaff is just a day’s trip from the Grand Canyon, Native American ruins, many lakes and streams and the red rocks of Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon.
A city of just over 65,000 people, Flagstaff offers many cultural opportunities through its symphony, theater, museums, art galleries, restaurants, bars and music venues. Tourism is one of Flagstaff’s primary industries, along with government, education and healthcare. Flagstaff also hosts a sizable airport, shopping centers, an indoor mall, a ski resort, an observatory and an historic downtown disctrict. Flagstaff has a daily newspaper, the Arizona Daily Sun, and numerous radio stations providing a variety of formats. The city is about a one and a half-hour drive from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, a two-hour drive from Phoenix and Lake Powell and a four-hour drive from Las Vegas and Tucson.
Too, Flagstaff is an educated city. It prides itself on being home to Northern Arizona University, one of the most respected mid-size universities in the country. Coconino Community College, which offers a wide variety of classes also calls Flagstaff home. Flagstaff Unified School District has an outstanding reputation for progressive elementary and secondary education. The city also is the county seat of Coconino County.
